Community money deserves clear records.

We are a small team in Kigali building the tool we wished every cooperative and ikimina already had.

Community money deserves clear records.

Notebooks, spreadsheets and screenshots weren't built for your group's money.

  • Payments are hard to check. Bank slips and MoMo messages get lost in phones and folders.
  • Members have to trust, not see. Most members cannot check their own savings or loan balance.
  • Year end takes weeks. Sharing profit, paying out dividends and preparing reports for RCA all happen by hand.
A treasurer frowns over a handwritten ledger, with stacks of paper slips, a calculator and a phone on the desk

One record that everyone can trust.

e-Mali turns every contribution, loan and expense into a verified record. The books build themselves from those records, so the reports are ready when you need them.

Our story

Across Rwanda, cooperatives and savings groups (Ibimina) hold the savings of millions of people. Most of that money is still tracked in notebooks and spreadsheets, and checked by eye against bank slips and MoMo messages. When a record is lost or a number does not add up, the group loses more than money. It loses trust.

We built e-Mali so that every franc a group handles has its proof, its approval and its place in the books, and so that every member can check their own balance.

What we believe

  • Members first.

The money belongs to the members, so they should be able to see it.

  • Two people, every time.

Good controls protect honest officers as much as they protect members.

  • Simple by default.

A ten-person ikimina should not need an accountant to use e-Mali.

  • Built for Rwanda.

Our own laws, our own languages, our own way of saving.

Why “e-Mali”

Mali means wealth or property in Kiswahili and is understood across East Africa. e-Mali is that wealth, kept clearly and online.

A small team based in Kigali.

Why we started e-Mali

We kept meeting treasurers who work hard and honestly, yet spend their evenings matching notebooks against bank slips and MoMo messages, and members who can only take someone's word for their balance. We started e-Mali so that keeping a group's money right is easy, and seeing it is every member's right.

We are looking for our first groups.
